Project & Aims
ω-3 Fatty acid metabolism in the prevention of prostate cancer
I wish to identify the primary metabolites of ω-3 PUFA, such as α-linolenic, eicosapentaenoic, and docosahexaenoic acids, in normal and cancerous human prostate cells and compare them with the metabolites of arachidonic acid. The fatty acids chosen represent the most common dietary supplements. While the α-linolenic acid is of plant origin (flax seed), the other two are major constituents of fish oils.
